The Relationship Between Stimuli Accumulation And The Effect Of Acupuncture Anesthesia

370 Hospital of PLA, Wuhan

1, Selecting, grouping of patients and method of stimuli accumulation.

60 cases of adult patient were divided into 3 groups, each containing 20 patients of appendicites, thyroidal disease or inguinal hernia respectwely. The points selected and the parameters of stimulation during acupuncture anesthesia were adopted according to different diseases, and 30 minutes duration of acupuncture stimulation was accounted for a dose of stimulation.

Group I: 2 doses of stimulation were accumulated at 24hrs., 12hrs. preoperatively.

Group II: 1 dose of stimulation was accumulated at 12hrs. preoperatively.

Control group: no stimuli was accumulated preoperatively 2, Results

The accumulation of acupuncture stimulation can elevate the pain tolerance threshold obviously. On the basis of the observation of the 3 groups mentioned above, the pain tolerance threshold of group I increased from 3.95 mA before stimuli accumulation to 6.37 mA after the accumulation of 2 doses of stimulation at 24hrs., 12hrs prior to operation and 30 minutes induction of acupuncture anesthesia. The rate of elevation was 77.44%. The elevation rate of group II was the most distict one. It increased from 1.98 mA before accumulation to 5.35 mA after one dose of stimulation at 12hrs prior to operation and 30 minutes acupuncture induction. The rate of elevation was 172%. of the control group the pain tolerance threshold increased from 2.98 mA to 4.22 mA, 41.8% elevated. It was lower than the other two groups'. Conclusively the effect of acupuncture anesthesia may be augment by accumulating the anesthesic effect of acupuncture.
