The Report Of 309 Cases Of Radical Maxillary Sinusotomy Under Acupuncture Anesthesia

Rescarch Group of Acupuncture Anesthesia, Guangxi Medical College

Acupuncture anesthesia was employed in our hospital for 309 cases of radical maxillary sinusotomy, including 76 cases of bilateral operation. For prediction of anesthetic effect acupuncture feeling and adrenalin test were done pre-operatively in 97 cases. Points of acupuncture used were (1) Quanliao, Sibai (2) Hegu, Zhigou (3) Hegu, Quanliao (4) bilateral Erqian, and (5) Erqian, Zhigou. The frequency of stimulation was 200~6000 impulses per minute and the anesthetic induction time was 15~25 minutes. Comparing the results of two recipes of acupuncture points, Group (1) (Quanliao, Sibai), 221 cases, the anesthetic effect of grade I and II was 86.4%, Group (2) (Hegu, Zhigou), 65 cases, grade I and II was 73.0% (t=2.3 p<0.05), so that points of acupuncture in Group (1)were the better. Bilateral radical maxillary sinusotomy could be performed simultaneously under acupuncture anesthesia, and the side effects of which were almost similar to those of unilateral operation, swollen of the face was milder than those performed with local anesthesia and post-operative recovery was faster.
