The author uses Sanyangluo point penetrated through Ximen point in chest surgery, to obtain analgesic effect from the former and sedative effects from the latter, providing more physiological conditions for the patients. These points give less incisional pain, less palpitation, less shortness of breath and shifting of the mediastinum postoperatively. The technique of the anesthetic procedure is described in detail, it is stressed that the gentleness is the key to successful anesthesia. 133 cases of pneumonectomy were performed under acupuncture anesthesia, with grade I and II results in 85.71%. 21 normal subjects were also used to test the analgesic effects of the acupuncture. It is found that needling of Sanyangluo has analgesic effects on the chest wall, with increase of morphine-like substances in the blood, and also can inhibit the formation of histamine in blood. The author stressed the importance of proper selection of the needling points in acupuncture anesthesia. The Sanyangluo point is the main point used, and other adjuvant points are chosen according to the condition of the patients.
