The Changes Of Plasma Camp Content In Patients Under Acupuncture Anaesthesia

cAMP distributes widely in human and animal bodies and plays an important role in physiological functions. It relates closely to some hormones, neurotransmitters and the functions of the autonomic nervous system. Under certain conditions cAMP produces pain and antagonizes morphine analgesia. Thus it may be involved in regulatory and analgesic effects of acupuncture. The cAMP contents in plasma of 136 patients under acupuncture anaesthesia before and after induction and during operation were examined by competitive protein binding assays. The relationship between the type division by dialectical method of traditional Chinese medicine and the changes of plasma cAMP, and the interrelations between plasma PGE, Dopamine รก-hydroxylase (DBH) and cAMP also were observed. The results indicate that plasma cAMP in the grade I patients were decreased or unchanged after induction and that in grade III patients were increased. Plasma cAMP contents in grades I, II, III patients all increased during operation, in the grade III patients the plasma cAMP contents not only rose markedly but also restored slowly, whereas in grade I patients, the elevation was minimum with a prompt restoration. The plasma cAMP of normal subjects and patients under epidural anaesthesia remained unchanged. These results suggest that cAMP content of the plasma is definitely correlated with the efficacy of acupuncture anaesthesia. It was assumed that cAMP may play a role in the regulation of physiological functions by acupuncture.


The changes of plasma cAMP and PGE content in the majority of patients show negative correlation, though statistically not significant. The changes in cAMP and DBH content reveal significant positive correlation. The role of these agents in acupuncture anaesthesia and their interrelations deserve further research.

The plasma cAMP content and its relationship with the type division by dialectical method of traditional Chinese medicine will be further observed.
