The Clinical Observation On The Enhancement Of Analgesic Effects With Haloperidol Under Acupuncture Anesthesia

Luo Yi (Department of Anesthesia, Wuhu District Hospital, Anhui)

This paper compares the effects of acupuncture anesthesia (AA) in two groups of thyroidectomies, each containing 50 cases. In one group Haloperidol was used, but not in the controls.

They are similar in sex, age and disease as well as in the technique and duration of their operation. The selected "AA point" was also the same in all cases.

In the series with Haloperidol, the success rate is 100%, and excellent-good rate is 90% as compared with 97% and 74% respectively in the controls. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The analgesic rates for skin incision and traction of the thyroid gland were both 32% in the former, and 19% and 18% respectively in the latter (P<0.01). A difference was also observed in the dosage of 2% Lidocaine used during operation. It was 0.09 ml per hour in the former while 0.24 ml in the latter. This suggests that Haloperidol is able to enhance the analgesic effect in AA.
