Li Boning (The Hospital of Chengdu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

In recent years a lot of general survey on the propagated sensation along channels (PSC) has been done in our fatherland. Results showed PSC is a common phenomenon in Chinese population. No investigation concerning with this subject is reported upon other races of human beings. One year ago I had a chance to serve Mozanbicans with acupuncture, a survey of PSC was made with 203 native civilians who were out patients of the Tete Hospital, Mozambique. Majority of them suffered from diseases accompanied with pain or nervous affections. Low frequency current was used and Jing and Yuan points were stimulated. The results were estimated in accordance with the standard of our own country commonly used.

Results: Three cases had marked PSC (1.5%), 61 moderate (30.0%), mild 102 (50.3%) and none 37 (18.2%). The sum of percentage occurrence of PSC is 81.8%. There is no apparent difference upon sex and age.

The speed of propagation was sluggish being nearly 3.3-6.6 cm/sec., the width of the propagation zone was about 1.5-3 cm.
