Although there was no such term as "hypertension" in traditional medical literature, yet our ancestors noticed that if the human body had had certain hypertensive symptoms (for instance hypertension), one could have the possibility of sudden "Zhongfeng " (cerebro-vascular accident). In our experience, appropriate usage of scarring-moxibustion can lower the blood pressure and diminish the chance of abrupt occurrence of "Zhongfeng". On the basis of the clinical data of 54 cases treated with scarring-moxibustion, aside from marked lowering of blood pressure, there is marked difference in the "viscosity of blood" and "cerebroangiography" before and after moxibustion. There are ample evidences to show that scarring-moxibustion can lower the viscosity of blood, as well as dilate blood vessels of various sizes, causing a drop of blood pressure, thereby reducing the chance of abrupt occurrence of "Zhongfeng". In the past 17 years, only 5 cases of hypertension out of 54 showed "Zhongfeng" crisis after treating scarring-moxibustion, while in the control group of 12 cases, there were 4 cases with "Zhongfeng". It can be stated primarily that scarring-moxibustion is effective for the prevention and treatment of hypertension.
