The Comparative Observation On Strabotomy Under Acupuncture Anesthesia And Drug Anesthesia

Liaoning Cooperative Group of Acupuncture Anesthesia for Strabotomy

60 cases of strabotomy were divided into two groups: 30 cases used acupuncture anesthesia (needling points at the opposite side to the operation); 30 cases used drug anesthesia. Before and during operation, certain physiological and clinical indices were observed.

The pain threshold and pain tolerance threshold were examined before operation, it was found when the thresholds were higher (the average pain threshold is 1.4-1.5mA, the average pain tolerance threshould 6.45-6.8mA) the results were favorable.

About the pulse rate and wave amplitude observed before operation, the effect of acupuncture anesthesia is worse when the pulse rate is accelerated, but there is no definite relationship to the changes of the wave amplitude.

In comparing the result of acupuncture anesthesia with infiltration anesthesia, the rate of grades I, II is 100% in acupuncture anesthesia and 93.3% in drug anesthesia. By statistical analysis, P>0.05, there is no significant difference between these two groups.

In regard to the influence on heart rate, statistically P>0.05, the two groups show no definite difference.

As to the heart rate, during shortening of the muscle, it decreases about 21.8/min. in infiltration anesthesia and 19.1/min. in acupuncture anesthesia. By statistical analysis, there is no definite difference between these two groups.

During recessing the muscle, the heart rate decreases about 12.8/min. in infiltration anesthesia and 14.6/min. in acupuncture anesthesia. By statistical analysis, there is no definite difference.

At the time of pulling the muscle, among the 60 cases positive eye-heart reflex appears in 31 cases (18 cases in drug anesthesia and 13 cases in acupuncture anesthesia.) In literatures, there are reports about cardiac arrest in strabotomy, so more attention should be paid to prevent its occurrence before operation.

The superiority of the acupuncture anesthesia: during operation bleeding is small in amount, the dragging pain is light, and the postoperative vomiting is not as severe as in drug anesthesia.
