Phenomena Of Propagated Sensation Along Channels Induced By Limitation Of Spontaneous Conscious Activity -- Entering Quiescent Condition (Eqc)

Wang Buxiong, Cui Lihua, Chu Weizhong (Shanghai Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

The propagated sensation along the channels (PSC) may probably be one of the external manifestations of the channels. Theoretically, such phenomena can not only be detected in those who are particularly sensitive, but also in those who are not sensitive. The question is how to master the appeared law.

In order to promote the PSC of the needling, acupuncture therapy in various times always laid stress on advising patients to pay attention to the needling points. The PSC can also be induced by ancient breathing exercise EQC-inducing practise and concentrating the spirit within Dantian  point. So the inducing emphasis should be laid upon internal cause accordingly. In our experiment the PSC was induced by EQC inducing in combination with point stimulation method (to press the point).

Out of 118 experimented soldiers and middle school students 101 were sucessfully induced in PSC at a success rate of 85.59%. Among them, 72 cases were of highly obvious type, at a rate of 71.29% in total.

Method of experiment

The subject undergoing the experiment was instructed to sit comfortably and had his eyes closed and his muscles relaxed in a quiescent state of no miscellaneous ideas. Then he (or she) was instructed to peck his (or her) own teeth, to "sound the heaven drum" (to cover the ears with palms and to flick the back neck with fingers), to count his (or her) own respirations etc., so as to induced the EQC. When the PSC was induced, a "start signal" was given, i.e. the subject was advised to experience carefully the motion and feeling at the press point, and to indicate the change of sensational location by his (or her) own finger. Then press on the point of the subject undergoing the experiment.

Analysis of results

1. In a successful experiment, the subject can point out the PS route automatically, and indicate various conditions and characteristics of the PS clearly. According to the observations of 101 cases, the conditions and characteristics of the induced PS are in concordance with those of the human group investigated.

2. The relation between the degree of EQC inducing and the rate of success and highly obvious type transformation is parallel in adult. In children or young people though the degree of EQC inducing is not so deep, the PSC is successful in a high rate.

3. The EQC inducing is an entity of transformation. Once induced successfully, it is unnecessary to repeat the "start signal". By stimulating a single press point, corresponding PS line can be induced at any other selected points.

4. The transformation of EQC inducing has a long term after-effects. Once induced successfully, it is unnessary to practice further. According to the reports of 97 cases, in examinations immediately after the release of EQC inducing or after several weeks, the corresponding PS line can still be detected in the majority of the subjects, if his (or her) single press point is stimulated.

5. During the process of inducing, the peripheral stimulation method remains unchanged. As the EQC inducing changes the mechanism of the central nerve system, the PSC can be detected on those who are not prominent in PSC and changes the non-obvious type into highly obvious type.

It is hypothetical that the basic process of PSC is going on in the central nerve system. It may probably be the result of the peripheral projection of central procedure in which the excitation disseminates after a certain particular pattern (called meridian pattern) along the cortical neurons.
