A female patient, aged 51 years, suffered from cholecystopathy. She was of marked propagated sensation along channels (PSC). She fell asleep when the PSC had reached the head or only near it, and slept as long as the stimulation had been continued. After cease of stimulation, she waked spontaneously. The EEG taken during her natural sleep showed normal findings and EEG of the induced sleep ranged within normal extent too with an alternation of slow and rapid waves occasionally.
It is suggested that the sleep phenomenon mentioned above may be a result of the development of internal inhibition in the central nervous system induced by acupuncture.
