The Clinical Experiences In 85 Cases Of Cesarean Section Under Acupuncture Anesthesia

Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital, Congqing

85 cases of cesarean section were performed under acupuncture anesthesia with the success rate of 95.29%, excellent and good effects in 87.05%. There were neither complications nor accidents encountered. The result was satistactory, and both mothers and babies were safe. In our series the needling points used were: Sanyinjiao, Weima point and paraincision needling.

In comparison with local anesthesia, acupuncture not only can stimulate the functions of various organs and systems of the body, but also can increase its ability to combat pain and the resistance against disease. In order to get better operative and anesthetic results, we must pay attention to steadiness, accuracy, gentleness and quickness in every surgical procedure. Surgical technique was modified appropriately to shorten the duration of operation. The shortest time for a cesarean section was 18 minutes. The advantages of this type of anesthesia were: stable blood pressure less blood loss, semi-liquid diet immediately after the operation, slight postoperative surgical temperature, less amount of blood transfusion and infusion and early recovery.

After the induction of the acupuncture anesthesia we always perform paintolerance test simply by pricking the skin of the operative field. For those with low pain-threshold, skin should be infiltrated locally with 5-20 ml of 0.25% novocaine so as to get better result.
