The Study On Radiation Field Photograph Used For Evaluating The Effect Of Acupuncture Anesthesia

People's Hospital of Qidong County, Hunan

Radiation field photography of the tip of left middle finger was taken to serve as an objective index in evaluating the effect of acupuncture anesthesia.

A study in 40 healthy adults revealed that during the experience of pain there were significant changes in the light corona: (1) The shadow in the middle of the light corona was narrowed, (2) Lightening macules (dirty macules) appeared in the middle of the light corona, (3) light corona appeared with defects, (4) The combined appearance of the above-mentioned changes.

In 82 patients operated upon under acupuncture anesthesia, a series of photographs were taken before and during the operation. It was found that light pain often caused narrowing of light corona, while strong pain produced macules or defects. In most patients when the light corona narrowed down in amplitude, their pulse wave lowered down as well. This might be related to the presence of vascular contraction.
