Consistent opinions have not yet been obtained about the role of Kirlian photography in the observations of points, channels and "qi" (energy) as well as physiological and psychological activities of the human body. Under the controlled physical conditions of Kirlian photography, three things were observed in this experiment:

(1) whether Kirlian photography could reflect the life activity,

(2) effect of acupuncture on Kirlian photography,

(3) preliminary analysis for its mechanism produced.

The results were as follows.

Kirlian pictures of a non-living object, such as a cut foot of a cat or a coin, taken in succession remained unchanged, whereas those of a living object varied with its different states. Changes in corona of a hand Kirlian picture appeared buring the acupuncture in the point of "Hegu" and the electric stimulation in the point of "Zhongchong". The corona could be rare when one was in tension and varied obviously with the stimulations during the acupuncture anesthesia operation. The results obtained from a cat was similar to that of human being. To burn the skin of the back of a cat with moxa and draw its stomach brought about evident changes of Kirlian pictures of its toes. This phenomenon did not exist if its brachial plexus and spinal cord had been cut off. However, the Kirlian pictures did exist when its neural pathway between cerebral cortex and brain stem was suspended. When atropine was injected or "504" blood-ceased agent painted on its toes, that phenomenon once again disappeared.

We preliminarily viewed that Kirlian photography could reflect some physiological and psychological changes of living objects. The integral function of brain stem and normal activity of sweat glands were necessary.
