Group of Acupuncture Treatment, Shenyang General Hospital of PLA
This paper reports the results of treatment of 197 cases with gastroptosis by acupuncture. 85 of the patients were male and 112 female, ranging in age between 18 and 62 years, with 71% (140 cases) between 30-50. The duration of disease was ½-25 years, the majority (82.2%) within 10 years.
All cases in this series were diagnosed by roentgenologic examination, the inferior pole of greater curvature extending more than 6 cm below the line joining the iliac crests, with most (175 cases) between 6.1-12cm.
According to the method used, the patients were divided into 3 groups: 91 cases in group A, 60 cases in group B and 46 cases in group C.
In group A an 8 cun long, No. 28 needle was inserted into the subcutaneous layer on the right side of epigastrium at point Youmen, along the subcutaneous tissue forward to the point Huangshu on the left side, and then gently lifting the needle, the operator has feeling of pull under the tip of the needle. In group B the acupuncture point was the same as in group A, the needle was left in situ for 20 minutes without lifting, but only twirling intermittently; in addition, Zusanli was used as auxiliary point. In group C two needles were used, one at Youmen as in group A, and the another at Taiyi, the needles being connected to the electric needling apparatus for 20 minutes. The effective results of groups A, B and C are 91.2%, 78.4% and 91.2% respectively.
