Treatment Of Gastroptosis With Acupuncture - Observation Of 210 Cases

Wang Shili (Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Nanyang People's Hospital,Henan)

Since 1975, we've treated 210 cases (127 male, and 83 female) of gastroptosis with acupuncture. They are of different degrees, 109 cases of 1st degree, 80 cases of 2nd degree and 21 cases of 3rd degree. The ages of patients were about 17-60 years old.

The main points are the "Stomach" point (2 cun below the processus xiphoideus and 5 fen on the right of Ren channel) and the "Xiachui" point (2-2.5 cun below the navel and 1 cun left of the Ren channel). These points must be punctured in every treatment, with the No. 28 thin needle in length of 7.5-8 cun. The needle should be inserted into "Stomach" point for 3 fen, and then pushing to "Xiachui". The needle should be twirled in one direction until the needle tip was wound by the connective tissue and the needle could then be lifted. The doctor should press on lower margin of the stomach. When the epigastric region is swollen and the patient himself feels distention, then the needle should be taken out. The acupuncture is given every other day.

Three days after the symptoms have disappeared ultrasonic examination was given. The treatment should be stopped if the stomach has regained its normal position. X-ray with barium meal was taken a month later. If the stomach has been bought to the normal position and the symptoms completely disappeared, that is considered as cured. If the position of the stomach has been lifted, not to its normal site yet and the symptoms have been lessened, that is considered as effective. The cure rate is 85% and the total effective rate 94.76%.
